Six Thousand Years of Progress.
One Truth That Never Changed.

From the biplane to the supersonic jet, the camel caravan to the sports car, technology has raced forward for six thousand years of recorded history — but human nature hasn’t moved an inch, and neither has the God who made it. A working man’s fearless, no-jargon case that the Bible is exactly as true today as it was 3,400 years ago.

about the author

Meet J. Edward

J. Edward is a middle-class husband, father, and grandfather living in the Midwest, where he works as an aviation technician. Raised in a church-going Christian home and educated in private Christian schools through junior high, he carried a familiar, casual faith for most of his life — believing in God without ever seriously studying the book that claims to reveal Him.

That changed in midlife. Being “born again” in 2005, J. Edward began studying the Bible in earnest and talking about it with family and friends — only to discover how far the secular world’s view of Scripture had drifted from his own, and from the Bible itself. After years of hearing the same objections raised again and again, he became convinced that someone needed to answer them plainly.

He has no college degree and no formal biblical education. What he had was an NIV Bible, a church, a personal computer, and — as he’ll tell you himself — the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Time, Technology, Tolerance, and Truth is the result: his first book, written not as a scholar, but as an ordinary believer who decided the secular case against the Bible deserved a direct, honest answer.

“It is my intention to show that the Bible is not outdated and is just as applicable in today’s modern times as it was when it was written 3,400 years ago.”

— J. Edward, from the Preface

The Book

Time, Technology, Tolerance, and Truth

A Biblical Perspective on Modern Times

Why does the Bible still matter in an age of jet engines and algorithms? In Time, Technology, Tolerance, and Truth, first-time author J. Edward takes on that question with the plainspoken confidence of a man who has heard every objection at the dinner table and decided to answer them one by one.

Tracing the history of commerce, transportation, and communication — from the barter system to the credit card, the caravan to the supersonic jet — J. Edward makes a simple but forceful case: technology has transformed almost everything about how we live, but it has never once changed who we are. Sin, selfishness, and the hunger for truth are exactly what they were three thousand years ago — and so is God’s answer to them.

Along the way, the book confronts the excuses used to dismiss Scripture, weighs the Bible’s manuscript evidence against other ancient texts, questions the assumptions behind evolution, and challenges modern “tolerance” as a stand-in for truth — before closing with the one decision J. Edward believes every reader must eventually make.

“In today’s society, there are many popular beliefs, philosophies, traditions, or topics of interest, most of which are easy subjects to discuss among a diverse variety of people. There are a few topics, however — one in particular — that can be uncomfortable to say the least, and dangerous at most, to bring up for discussion in everyday conversation. That subject is the Bible! If you start talking about or quoting from the Bible among the general population, you had better be well prepared to defend it.”

“Of those who will face off with you, you’re going to hear objections such as the Bible is a myth, that it was written by man, it’s inaccurate, has been translated so many times that it can’t be trusted — and, my favorite, that it’s out of touch with the times we live in.”

Why Read This Book

Made for Real Conversations, Not the Seminary

Written by a Regular Guy, for Regular People

No seminary degree, no theological jargon — just an aviation technician who studied hard and writes in a voice anyone can follow.

A Fresh Answer to Old Objections

Tackles the excuses skeptics repeat most often — “the Bible is outdated,” “it’s just stories,” “science disproved it” — one at a time.

Grounded in Evidence, Not Just Opinion

Compares the Bible’s manuscript record against other trusted ancient texts, side by side.

Confronts Culture Head-On

A candid look at how modern tolerance and political correctness collide with timeless biblical truth.

Built for the Real World

Draws on everyday life — family, work, technology, even a grandson’s preschool — instead of abstract theory.

Ends With a Decision, Not Just a Discussion

Every chapter builds toward the one choice that matters most: what you do with the truth once you’ve found it.

Inside the Book

Six Chapters, One Argument

Before Chapter 1, a Preface and Introduction lay out exactly who this book is for — and why the case needed to be made. From there, each chapter builds on the last.

01

Bravery

Why seeking the truth — real truth — takes courage before it takes evidence, and what it costs to admit you might be wrong.

02

Time vs. Technology

A sweeping tour through commerce, transportation, and communication, showing that technology changes constantly — but human nature never has.

03

Tolerance

How selfishness, sin, and “modern thinking” became the new moral authority — and what got left behind in the process.

04

Truth

The evidence: manuscript reliability, biblical wisdom, and a hard look at the assumptions behind evolution.

05

Choices

Why the only question that matters at the end of life is whether the Bible is true — and why refusing to decide is a decision of its own.

06

Summation

A clear, practical close — and a direct call to study, decide, and act, bravely.

In His Own Words

Memorable Lines from the Book

There is a difference between believing in something and believing that something exists.

— Introduction

With time, nothing changes except technology. Nothing! We are the same — past, present, and future. And so is God and his Word.

— Chapter 6: Summation

Every generation was living in the most advanced, modern times in history at the time of their existence.

— Chapter 2: Time vs. Technology

Only a brave person is willing to honestly admit and fearlessly face what a sincere and logical mind discovers.

— Chapter 1: Bravery

Procrastination is not making a decision, but one day closer to death.

— Chapter 6: Summation

If it turns out that the Bible is true, then everything changes. And I mean EVERYTHING!

— Chapter 5: Choices

Editorial Reviews

This is a fantastic read. I've struggled with my faith over the years in regards to technology and how to relate the Bible in the face of our drastically changing times. This book provided me with many answers but also got me thinking, which I think is the sign of a good book. The writer and I come from slightly different standpoints when it comes to matters of faith but I found that with this book, it didn't matter. Truth is truth. He explains things in modern English which made for a pleasurable read and most definately I blew the dust off of my old Bible, so to speak, and really got into checking his facts and I found that they were there...all of them. I find that it's far too easy to over-simplify details in the Bible by saying, "Oh that doesn't apply, that's outdated." This book opened my eyes to the dangers of such thinking. Great book. I liked it so much that I got a copy for my Mother and she read it cover to cover in one sitting.

— Reader

Thank you, J. Edward, for writing a book that helped me put into words that which I believe! This book will make you think... it will make you reflect... it will give you words to use in conversations with non-believers and believers alike. You'll have moments where you will want to call people you've had conversations with in the past and say, "THIS is what I was trying to say! READ THIS BOOK!" This book reads like a thought-provoking conversation with a good friend. I highly recommend it!

Reader Reviews

This was a very good book. I recommend it for both Believers and Non-Believers alike. It’s a sincere, non-dogmatic appeal, in an easy to read book for anyone yearning to find internal peace in our times. I also found it to be a quite astute and insightful 'read' for such a short book. A clear and well-reasoned discussion for our times. The author’s logical approach to his assertions are clearly presented from a scriptural basis and supported with relevant statistical facts. I also liked how the book was organized, ending with an appropriate measure of food-for thought. Overall it reinforced what I already believe as “Truth” and further confirming the principles and precepts I choose to live by. Give it a read; I think you’ll be encouraged by it!

Reader

I just finished reading Time, Technology, Tolerance, and Truth and can think of several people in my life that I would like to share it with. Whole books have been written on each of the subjects covered, but the author has boiled them down and tied them together in an interesting, thought-provoking, and practical way. It is written from one layperson to another, easy to read.

Reader

Mr. Edward makes some good arguments for why, though the world is changing at an ever increasing pace, humanity is the same at it was in biblical times. The author is heartfelt in his plea for the reader to be brave and keep searching for truth. This is the perfect book for the confusing world we live in today.

Reader

Comprehensive in scope, but written by a regular guy for regular guys, this book contrasts alternative world-views. Our world-view drives our everyday decisions, so it's important! This book taught me a lot and challenged my thinking in an enjoyable way. Highly recommended!

Reader

The author’s passion for the subject along with a fearless approach of tackling the hard questions makes this an interesting read. The Author addresses questions many of us have, or have had and addresses them in plain and simple language.

Reader

Great Read!!Sat down and read it in just a couple hours. Really brings things into perspective of how today’s society is so reliant on technology to communicate that something written only months ago would seem outdated much less the teachings of the bible from 3,400 years ago. Great job bringing home a message without overpowering with personal beliefs. This book will make you think as well as make you take a good long look at yourself.

Reader

Seldom do I give 5 stars, but this book earns it. Difficult questions are faced head on with truth and practical answers. Not only will you be able to find answers yourself, but will be able to express to others why you believe what you do.

Reader

Very well written book. The author does an excellent job of explaining how what was written over 2000 years ago still apply today. I highly recommend this book.

Reader

I would like to start by saying I rarely read books so this being a relatively short book it caught my eye. The author does a great job of illustrating his points in a clear concise way. I tend to think of things in a technical mechanical way, which doesn’t always work in favor of spiritual seeking. J. Edward really played on my technician’s mind with many of his comparisons of the bible to our lives throughout history. I would sincerely recommend this book to anyone looking for solid evidence that the bible is a factual writing and not just a story book.

Reader

Straight to the point reality is a hard thing to accept. Sometimes and hope this helps some folks understand a more spiritual view of the world. Have recommended already to several people in my environment. Thanks J!

Reader

This truly is an inspirational book. J. Edward tells us many things and quotes many facts that really convince me of the validity of the bible. The Time vs. Technology are right on! The bible remains true. What’s in it does not change. After reading his book I believe you will agree that the bible is the way to our salvation, or at least guide you to investigate it further and I pray that you do. J. Edward writes about so many facts that substantiates that the bible is true. Be brave, read this book and make your own decision.

Reader

I really enjoyed reading this book. I like the straight forward approach of the comparisons of THEN and NOW and how he shows that no matter what new things might have entered our lives the basic teachings of the bible have remained just as pertinent today as it was when written. I purchased my book and then a second copy to give to a friend

Reader

Well written book, easy to read and follow.

The Journey Behind the Book

Why This Book Exists

For most of his life, J. Edward’s faith was quiet and familiar — the kind you inherit growing up in church, without ever putting it to the test. That changed in 2005, when he was “born again” in midlife and, for the first time, began studying the Bible seriously instead of simply believing it from a distance.

What he found waiting for him wasn’t curiosity — it was resistance. Conversations with family, friends, and the wider secular world revealed a view of Scripture that was, in his words, “far different” from his own, and far different from the Bible itself. The same objections came up again and again: outdated, unreliable, a myth, a book overtaken by science and time.

After years of hearing those same arguments repeated, J. Edward decided someone needed to answer them directly — not with a theology degree, but with the tools he actually had: an NIV Bible, his church, a personal computer, and prayer. Time, Technology, Tolerance, and Truth is that answer.

Raised in the Church

A church-going childhood and private Christian schooling through junior high — and a casual faith that followed into adulthood.

2005 — Born Again

A midlife turning point sparks serious study of the Bible — and years of hard conversations with a skeptical secular world.

The Book

With no formal training — just Scripture, prayer, and persistence — J. Edward writes the answer he wished someone had handed him.
